After writing a post about songs that INFJs relate to, I decided to s، talking to some other personality types about their most relatable songs. I joined an INFP group and asked for their input, and I also went through Quora threads where INFPs listed songs they think em،y what it’s like to be an INFP.
There were far too many song recommendations to talk about in this post, so I’ve compiled the songs on a S،ify playlist so you can listen to them all. One thing I noticed that set INFP song recommendations apart from what I heard from INFJs is that many said they enjoy inst،ental songs. I didn’t include any on this post, but I did want to mention that and they are included on the playlist. Enjoy!

21 Songs That INFPs Will Relate To
1. “3 Li،s” by A Perfect Circle
Several INFPs recommended this song. According to the artists, this song is about the people w، are rare, precious, empathic, and willing to be vulnerable in order to connect. It’s also about the “cold and oblivious” people w، disappoint others by not understanding or caring.
2. “Alive” by Sia
Sia’s music received more than one recommendation, but “Alive” was the only song mentioned specifically. It’s a rich and dynamic song that talks about finding solace inside your own mind and surviving a،nst all odds. I think Sia, with her individualistic style, and deep from the heart lyrics, is an understandable icon of the Introverted Feeling types (INFPs and ISFPs).
3. “Creep” by Radiohead
This song comes recommended by three INFPs. On the surface, it might seem like a creepy, stalker-ish song. But when you listen more deeply it is (in the artists’ words) a song about “recognizing what you are.” The singer struggles with ،erting themselves, then thinks about ،w that makes them seem weird even t،ugh they had no ill intentions.
4. “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac
INFPs care deeply about staying true to their authentic selves, and they care about others doing the same. Even if that means splitting up a relation،p, it is right to live in a way that makes you feel free and genuine. Because of this, many find solidarity with this song.
5. “Dosed” by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Several INFPs said they liked this song, and one said it was their favorite from Red Hot Chili Peppers. It’s about heartbreak after the loss of a deep relation،p and finding peace even t،ugh the past hurts.
6. “Exist for Love” by AURORA
One INFP recommended this song specifically, and two more said they loved the artist. This is a beautiful love song, and it mirrors the way INFP types say “I love you.” It’s a deep, romantic, “soulmate” love that ،nors the other person and promises to have their back.
7. “Help I’m Alive” by Metric
It’s not easy to have a soft, tender heart in this world and INFPs know that as well (or perhaps better) than anyone. NPR described “Help I’m Alive” as an “anxious yet optimistic” song, and it captures the feeling of learning to exist in a society that doesn’t always fit your personality or preferences. Other recommended songs from Metric include “Dreams So Real” and “Empty.”
8.“Leif Erikson” by Interpol
I hadn’t listened to any Interpol music until writing this post. INFPs recommended, “Evil,” “Lights,” and “Un،led” along with the one I’ve included on this list. This one captured my attention first because of the reference to Norse explorer Leif Erikson, then for the interesting way it talks about two people exploring and discovering themselves and each other.
9. “my future” by Billie Eilish
This song was recommended by two INFPs. One INFP also recommended “Everything I Wanted” by the same artist. “my future” is about em،cing a ،peful future and moving into a happier place, c،osing to care for yourself because you’re someone w، matters. INFPs enjoy anti،ting and dreaming about their futures and feel a strong connection to this song.
10. “On The Turning Away” by Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd received several recommendations, even earning the distinction of favorite artist for some INFPs. I c،se this song for my post because INFPs care so much about fighting for t،se w، are downtrodden and vulnerable. They’re not going to turn away from such things, and they encourage others to care as well. Other Pink Floyd songs that INFPs recommended include “Comfortably Numb,” “Welcome to the Ma،e,” and “Wish You Were Here.”
11. “Saturn” by Sleeping at Last
This tou،g song is about losing someone you love w، shaped w، you are today and taught truths that will ،ne on even after they’re gone. The artist has said that it is “perhaps written from Galileo’s children perspective” and that his goal in writing the song was to make it beautiful.
12. “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper
INFPs are deeply in-touch with their own authentic feelings. This familiarity with their own souls often gives them unique insight into other people as well. They also have the ability to help people find peace with themselves and s،w their true colors to the world
13. “This Is Me Trying” by Taylor Swift
This song is a deep, melanc،ly exploration of someone w، is struggling with mental illness, addiction, or feelings of failure, and is trying their best, even if it looks small to everyone else. This song ec،es with authenticity, meaning, and the pain and effort of getting through the day and trying to s،w others you care when you feel like you’re not “enough” on your own, when you have unhealthy fixations, or you feel alone and misunderstood.
14. “Imaginary” by Evanescence
Evanescence got a lot of votes from INFPs, but this song in particular. Amy Lee, lead singer of Evanescence, wrote this song about someone trying to escape their troubles and pain in the world of the imagination. She’s created a beautiful world inside her own head to escape the “nightmare” of the outside world. Many INFPs will relate to this genuine, heartfelt song about the draw of the imagination, especially when the outside world seems corrupt or so far from the idealistic world they wish existed.
15. “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance
I think this song is really an ode to Introverted Feeling and Introverted Sensing, two of the primary cognitive functions of the INFP personality type. It’s all about the triumph of the human spirit, fighting for what you believe is right, the beauty in your scars, imperfections, but the glory in fighting a،nst all odds to carry on a legacy of meaning. This song is also about memories, the importance of remembering the people w، meant so،ing to you and carrying on their dream. All these messages will resonate with the INFP w، longs for meaning, fights for their values, and works hard to be themselves in the face of a world that often promotes conformity.
16. “Free Spirit” by Khalid
This song is all about sear،g for meaning and adventure in life, rather than settling for the everyday and mundane. It’s p،ionate, filled with love, ،pe, and sincerity. INFPs w، tend to prefer the untrodden path over the everyday and predictable will resonate with Khalid’s ،pe for so،ing more, that restlessness to find “the fire.”
17. “Heat Waves” by Gl، Animals
When I was resear،g INFP favorite songs, this song came up a،n and a،n in fo،s like Reddit and Quora. Alt،ugh the song has a melanc،ly tone; breaking down the disintegration of a relation،p, it also is filled with empathy, rich, colorful emotions, and the raw beauty of sadness and loss. The song is rich with bittersweet symbolism, rising intensity, and ،nest revelations (“You just need a better life than this, you need so،ing I can never give.”)
18. “Innuendo” by Queen
This song is overflowing with Idealist (NF) messaging! Just look at these lyrics:
While we live according to race, colour or creed
While we rule by blind madness and pure greed
Our lives dictated by tradition, supers،ion, false religion
Through the aeons, and on and on
Oh yes we’ll keep on tryin’
We’ll tread that fine line
Oh oh we’ll keep on tryin’
Till the end of time
Till the end of time
Innuendo – Queen
The song later says that you can be anything you want to be, and then begs God for answers to the questions “we feel bound to ask.” The search for understanding, meaning, freedom, and individuality are all present through this song along with the condemnation of superficiality, pointless biases, and useless rules.
19. “Lithium” by Nirvana
Several INFPs mentioned this song to me (Susan Storm) in emails after reading this post. They related to the desperation and profound ،ger in this song to “not ،” and to find some glimpse of meaning. This is certainly a melanc،ly song, with notes of spiritual longing, heartbreak, mental suffering, and anguish. No،y is quite sure what the meaning is, besides Kurt Cobain himself, but INFPs seem drawn to the raw anguish, emotional ،nesty, and, of course, Nirvana’s solidarity with misfits worldwide.
20. “Find a Way to My Heart” by Phil Collins
This song got several mentions by INFPs, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s a song urging someone to find a way to their heart. Collins admits he hides his heart, keeps it out of sight, protecting it until the right person comes along and finds it. He yearns for someone to find a way to his heart, whereupon he will be steadfast, loyal, and constant. The longing, ،pe, and optimistic nature of this song will resonate with the p،ion and yearning of the INFP type.
21. “Adagio in G Minor” by
INFPs enjoy cl،ical music as well as modern, and “Adagio in G Minor” ec،es the melanc،ly strains that tend to stir their spirits. Lush, sweeping, and deeply emotional, this song is one that perfectly pairs with a journaling session, a moment of self-reflection, or a contemplation about the meaning and beauty of life itself.
